Last year, the International Telecommunications Limited (ITU) and the Malawi government sponsored eight students to attend ITU Telecom Africa Youth Forum 2001,in Jo'burg,South Africa, from 12th to 17th November, 2001. And I happened to be among the eight.
The theme of the forum was 'Bridging the Digital Divide'. The forum was an eye-opener on the contribution of ICT to national development. It was so challenging that we have formed a movement called Initiative for ICT-related Development (ICT-D).Our project propposal is out. Our main mission is ICT awareness and pioneering formation of ICT clubs and telecenters in schools and communities. We will start visiting nearby schools as soon as they open after christmas and we are seeking funding for a regional ICT awareness symposium. Our main interest is to bring the Maawian community into discussing how ICTs can be employed in development of this country in such areas as commerce, education,HIV-AIDS prevention campaigns e.t.c.
I therefore welcome your comments, questions, advice, and support.
